VISIBOX MANUAL
Welcome to Visibox!
Visibox is a video and audio playback system for live performance. It is the “instrument” you use to trigger visuals while you perform!
Use Visibox’s drag-and-drop interface to create a song list and assemble the video clips, images, audio clips, live camera feeds, HDMI video inputs, or generative visualizers to accompany each song. While you perform, trigger your clips with a MIDI device such as a drum pad, piano-style keyboard, or foot pedals, or use your computer’s keyboard, mouse, Stream Deck, or the API.
What’s New in 5.0
- Visualizer Clips — A new Clip type that renders live, audio-reactive generative visuals using MilkDrop or ISF (Interactive Shader Format) engines. Ships with a library of built-in presets, plus create your own in the Visualizers Editor.
- Effects — A library of built-in visual Effects you can apply to any Clip, including audio-reactive Effects that pulse, glow, and shake with your music. Stack multiple Effect layers on a single Clip. Create and customize Effects in the new Effects Editor using CSS.
- Color Clips — Solid-color Clips with a built-in color picker, replacing the old placeholder Clips (which are now simply black Color Clips). Apply Effects for grit, texture, and atmosphere — or use them for blackouts and moody backgrounds.
- Clip & Song Editor Popups — Right-click any Clip or any Song for a rich inline editor with sliders and faster editing than the old context menus.
- Stream Deck Plugin — An official Elgato Stream Deck plugin with live clip thumbnails, playback controls, and volume encoders.
- AI Assistants — Control Visibox with natural language through Claude, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, Zed, VS Code, or Cline. One-click setup via Settings > Connect to AI Tools….
- Command Line Interface — A
visiboxshell command for scripting, shell aliases, and quick one-offs. Install via Settings > Install CLI Tool…. - Visibox API — A full local network API (HTTP REST + WebSocket) for developers building custom integrations.
- Sync to Song Position — A new resume option that locks video playback to the Song timeline, keeping visuals perfectly in sync with your backing track. You can switch away to an unsynced Clip (like a camera or HDMI input) and when you switch back, the synced Clip resumes as if it had been playing the whole time.
- Clip & Song Audio Metering — Real-time audio level meters on individual Clips and Songs in the Controller window. See at a glance where your audio is coming from — whether it’s embedded in a video Clip or attached at the Song level.
- Playback Timers — Elapsed and remaining time displayed on Clip and Song progress bars in the Controller.
- Settings Window — A dedicated Settings window consolidating audio, devices, output, displays, and general preferences in one place.
- Fit Mode — Formerly “Letterbox,” now renamed to Fit Mode with an added Stretch option that fills the output edge-to-edge even if it distorts the image — joining the existing Crop (default) and Letterbox modes.
Free to Use: Visibox offers a free plan with core functionality, plus a 14-day trial of Pro features. Pro plans unlock advanced features like MIDI control, Stream Deck support, multichannel audio, and remove the watermark.
